One client recently asked me “Kelly, how should I decide how much to fit in or be myself in extreme changes?”
Often, we face changes such as new jobs, new locations, or new team members. When the degree of change is small, it is not a big problem. However, what if the change is requiring you to change 180 degrees? Should you change into a 180 different person or still be yourself?
During the coaching, one image came to my mind — Tree.
Your core = Root + stem
Your skills = Branches
The root and stem are my core, who I am. The branches and leaves are the skills I learn and develop. I believe that we came to this world to grow and every challenge is an opportunity to grow ourselves. A new environment is again an opportunity to grow. The question is, what parts of your tree you are growing. Only branches? Or only roots?
There are multiple ways to grow your root & stem, such as pray, meditation, exercise, or whatever works for you.
Training, reading, or learning from others can help you grow your branches.
Hope you can take a moment and ask yourself.
- How does my tree look? Does it have a well-balanced root, stem, and multiple healthy branches?
- What am I doing today to grow my roots and stem?
- What am I doing today to grow my branches?
